Microsoft’s upcoming special event scheduled for September 21 appears to be centered around showcasing the company’s advancements in AI. However, this doesn’t rule out the possibility of new Surface hardware announcements, a traditional feature of Microsoft’s fall presentations.
Based on information and images obtained by WinFuture.de from European retailers, we can anticipate the introduction of the Surface Laptop Go 4 and Surface Laptop Studio 2. These devices represent incremental updates to their predecessors, the Surface Laptop Studio and Surface Laptop Go 3. While it’s customary for Microsoft to unveil a new Surface Pro tablet, such as the recent Surface Pro 9, there is no confirmation of its appearance at the event.
The 2021 launch of the 14-inch Surface Laptop Studio did not see any updates in the following year. However, this year, it is expected to receive enhancements in processing power and graphics. Specifically, it will feature the Intel Core i7-13700H or i7-13800H processors, both offering improved performance. Additionally, it will be equipped with Nvidia’s 8GB GeForce RTX 4060 mobile GPU, enhancing its capabilities for tasks like gaming and generative AI imaging. These upgrades are accompanied by improvements in Wi-Fi connectivity and Bluetooth technology.
While an option with integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics may be available, Intel’s H series processors are typically designed for use with discrete graphics, making the integrated graphics option less powerful. However, it may offer better thermal performance due to the absence of discrete graphics.
Other potential enhancements include increased storage capacity of up to 2TB SSD, a maximum of 64GB LPDDR5X memory, and the addition of a micro SD card slot and USB-A connection. There are also mentions of a potential display brightness improvement, which could enhance HDR support. Notably, the device’s screen bezels remain unchanged, retaining their somewhat dated appearance.
The Surface Laptop Studio, with its unique pull-to-tilt and lay-flat screen design, occupies a distinctive niche. While it offers a 120Hz refresh rate, it faces competition from foldable designs like HP’s new Foldable PC in the convertible laptop market.
In contrast, the refresh for the Surface Laptop Go 4 appears to be minimal, featuring a switch to the Core i5-1235U processor. Color options are reported to remain unchanged. It’s worth noting that the Surface Laptop Go series primarily targets the K-12 education market, emphasizing stability in configurations over time to facilitate replacements and upgrades.
While WinFuture provides pricing and availability details for Europe, it’s essential to remember that these figures may not align with the US market’s pricing or release schedule
